AI can make knowledge go further: spread the word

How our AI-powered learning management system (LMS) can transform data from in-person events into a durable, searchable knowledge base – providing actionable insights and continuous learning across mci group’s global offices.

MCI Institute, the group’s centre of excellence for learning and development, offers a wide array of online and in-person educational resources, programmes and tools for our talent of 1,700 employees in 31 countries. However, when it came to leveraging content shared during live in-person educational events, an opportunity was being missed. The
challenge – how to capture valuable knowledge and re-purpose insights into post-event resources and courses -at scale. Using the latest GenAI learning management system – the challenge was on!

Rising to the challenge

In response, the Global L&D team launched a pilot at the MCI Institute Business Academy  attended by 300 global leaders. Here, the team used the latest technology harnessing AI to synthesise the live content and
discussions, while simultaneously funnelling this wealth of information into
the company’s LMS. Crucial insights would now be available long after the
events had concluded.

Harmony between people & tech

The catalyst for this initiative was the introduction of a new LMS, switchai, which was adapted to support live event content capture beyond its usual LMS functionalities. This innovative ‘learning and knowledge companion’ is capable to distil the essence of live content and interactions, making topics easily searchable, while automatically generating follow-up summaries and action points for each session. It also paved the way to create post-event micro-courses that reinforced learning and helped scale knowledge, company-wide.

Endorsement from the top

Having Sebastien Tondeur, mci group’s CEO, interact with the new tool, sharing his own reflections, was pivotal to the programme’s success. With a strong endorsement from the top, each potential user was encouraged to see what they might gain from the AI powered LMS. As a result, over 95% of attendees actively engaged with the platform, contributing their reflections and takeaways.

Conclusion

The potential gains of this new initiative work in two distinct ways: while the content can be used to create specific ‘masterclasses’, designed for certain groups, information with broader appeal can be made more widely available. For instance, micro-courses can be fashioned from repurposed training content and participant reflections, ultimately making insights available globally in a format that employees would find engaging and actionable.

“By using AI to capture the best moments and insights from our academy, we’ve really changed the game and transformed our L&D approach in such settings. It’s about taking those once-fleeting moments and adding valuable content into our knowledge base, giving
something solid to build on…”
